Sandplay Therapy for Adults

A lady wearing a blue top is sitting on the floor. She has a tray of sand in front of her abd is playing with the sand.

Sandplay therapy offers adults a gentle, trauma-informed way to explore inner experiences when words feel difficult, overwhelming, or simply not enough. Using a tray of sand and a carefully selected range of miniature figures, clients create scenes that reflect their inner world in a safe and contained therapeutic space.

This approach is particularly well suited to adult trauma work. Sessions move at your pace, with no pressure to talk, explain, or revisit painful events. Sandplay therapy is always guided at a pace that feels safe and manageable, with no expectation to share or explain

more than you are comfortable with. Instead, the focus is on safety, choice, and emotional regulation.

Sandplay respects the body’s natural responses to trauma and allows insight and emotional processing to unfold gently, without forcing disclosure or re-telling. Many adults find this especially helpful when talk therapy alone feels too activating, exhausting, or stuck.

At The Red Chair Therapy, sandplay is offered as a supportive and respectful process that honours your boundaries and nervous system. It can be used as a stand-alone therapy or alongside talking therapy, depending on your needs and preferences.

If you’re curious whether sandplay therapy might be right for you, questions and exploration of options are welcome, including the option to book a complimentary Meet & Greet with The Red Chair Therapy.
